The Biggest Private Jet Ever

A brand new jet, costs about $100 million. They are big planes. And in this day and age, when to counted among the rich and the famous you must have at least one private jet, two men are stepping over the Boeing 747 for a private jet that can only be described as ginormous.

The Airbus A380

This plane is huge.  Let’s play comparisons for a moment:

A Boeing 747-400 can hold 416 passengers. At minimum, it costs $228,000,000 and weighs right about 900,000 pounds.

An Airbus A380 can hold 853 passengers. At minimum, it costs $375,000,000 and weighs right about 1,200,000 pounds.

Try to fathom how big that is for a moment.

Who Flies ‘Em

A few different airlines use the A380, the Dubai national airline, Emirates, being the biggest user. However, we don’t care about that. We care about 2 people who use these leviathans as private jets.

Yes, that’s correct. Why fly with almost a thousand when you can fill one of these up with just you and some bubbly?  So here’s the lowdown on two guys and their very big planes.

Prine Al-Waleed bin Talal

He’s a prince with no political power, but a heck load of cash.  Al-Waleed is CEO of his own company. He’s pretty good about donating $20 million to charities now and then, which is great, since he shelled out a good portion of a billion bucks to buy and outfit his private Airbus. His net worth is just over $19 billion (that’s almost twice the gross national product of the Republic of Congo). We assume he uses it to fly between his three  palaces.

Michael Ezra

Prince Al-Waleed was in a league of his own for a good while, until this guy came zooming out of the sky and bought an Airbus of his own.  Mr. Ezra  is described as a Ugandan tycoon (Uganda has tycoons?) who used to also run track for his country. Considering his watch costs a quarter of a million dollars, being the second man to buy an Airbus for personal use shouldn’t surprise us that much.  When allegations arose that he was broke (The Ugandan government was ordering him to pay back taxes of a billion Ugandan dollars: about $417,000 USD) he held a press conference where stacked $3 million on a table in front of him while he posed for pictures.  We’re just not sure if Uganda has an airstrip that can handle the plane.
